Serving Cacao is for me more than a ritual - it is a way to serve people, to embody love, and to create spaces where joy and beauty can flourish, while warming hearts one cup at a time. Through this sacred act of serving Cacao, in my cacao ceremonies I invite you to experience the magic of love, to enjoy the beauty of the present moment, and to find comfort in the simple pleasures of life.
Cacao beans contain over 300 different compounds that contribute to their unique flavour and health benefits. From antioxidants like flavonoids to mood-boosting chemicals like serotonin, Cacao is truly a superfood for both the body and the soul.
It is the raw material from which chocolate is made, but the chocolate we are used to consuming has very little left of Cacao. The Cacao that we are drinking in a Cacao ceremony is the purest form of Cacao. It is made from the seeds that the cacao pods have inside, which are fermented, dried, and slightly roasted in order to peel them and ground them into a paste. With this Cacao paste, I make the drink served in the ceremony. Therefore, there is nothing added and nothing taken from the Cacao seed.
Cacao is a powerful teacher plant, and you can have a mind-expanding experience when consuming it with respect and reverence, in the right set and setting, and with the right intention. It is a heart medicine in every sense, since it improves cardiovascular health due to its vasodilating properties. It has the ability to relax the muscles and enhance the brain’s absorption of “feel-good chemicals”, which results in a gentle euphoria and a deeper sense of tranquillity. Therefore, you can experience a subtle "high", but it does not take you “out of your body”. On the contrary, it brings you into your body and into the present moment, gently bringing also to the surface what you need at that moment.
Theobroma Cacao, the scientific name of the Cacao tree, means literally “Food of the Gods” which shows the value and reverence that the indigenous people of Central and South America had for this plant medicine. Cacao was revered by many ancient cultures such as the Mayan and Aztec, who knew about its health benefits and used Cacao as a medicine too.
As magical as it sounds, Sacred Cacao set me on this path and thanks to this power plant I am sharing this with you today. I firmly believe that I didn’t find Cacao, but Cacao found me, and she really transformed my life. This sacred plant connected me to my dreams, while gifting me the courage and inspiration to follow them. Thanks to Cacao, I am today following the call of my heart.
